Vocalist Macy Gray released Stripped, her debut album for Chesky Records, on September 9.
The album’s track list features a mix of new original compositions and covers, such as a 1930’s-style take on Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” and a new version of her own 1999 hit “I Try.” Her band includes drummer Ari Hoenig, guitarist Russell Malone and trumpeter Wallace Roney.
Stripped was released by Chesky Records as part of the label’s “Binaural + Series,” made up of music recorded with a single microphone in a multi-dimensional setting. Other albums in the series include trombonist Wycliffe Gordon’s Dream of New Orleans and percussionist Candido Camero’s The Master.
