The successor to Graydon Carter as editor of Vanity Fair will be New York Times books Editor Radhika Jones, sources tell The Post.
Jones’s name was first mentioned in The Post’s Media Ink two weeks ago, as a contender for the spot.
Still, her selection is a stunning move. Well known in literary circles, she’s a relative unknown in Hollywood.
Before jumping to the New York Times, Jones was a highly-regarded deputy editor at Time magazine.
Compensation is said to be a driving factor behind her selection. Jones comes cheap and is said to have been offered a package only in the $500,000 range.
Carter had been the editor for 25 years and was said to be pulling in $2 million a year.
One reason the early favorite Janice Min fell out of favor is because the former Us Weekly editor was looking for an estimated $2 million as well.
“The era of the highly paid Condé Nast editor is truly over,” said one source.
