The 3 Rs and physical development.
To some extent, all of primary, secondary and even tertiary education has been built on those pillars. Even with the latter-day addition of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and more lately, STEAM (the addition of the arts, there's one specific group of disciplines that children and young adults are still not taught.
That is, Entrepreneurship and Leadership.
Until now.
Lakin Wynter has spent much of her young adult life to date studying those disiciplines and, having paid her dues, so to speak (enduring homelessness, hospitalization, massive weight swings among other trials) she is now ready to launch into the next phase of her journey as an entrepreneurial consultant and thought leader.
"I am transitioning to the LAKIN College of entrepreneurship, Leadership and Management, which will offer seminars, workshops and conferences on entrepreneurship management and already offers workshops to college and high school students free of charge, " she points out.
The genesis of her efforts lay in her own difficulties in starting and establishing her service business. "Banks laughed me through the door," she recalls, "saying I had no track record." Now, she wants to get youngsters started on their own entrepreneurial journey, giving them the knowledge gleaned from her own experiences, both in business and on the very busy seminar/conference circuit.
Beginning January 2018, the College will offer a one-year course for persons aspiring to the entrepreneurial world, providing certification in the aforementioned areas as well as marketing and taxation
Mindful of her responsibility, Wynter will also seek to give back to society by requiring persons who complete the course to volunteer at hospitals (psych Wards - given the founder's own struggles with bipolar disorder), as well as Children's homes and other institutions.
Earlier this year, Wynter and her team shot six episodes of a motivational TV series, "Life Among Kindred Imagineers Now(LAKIN)" featuring among others, Dr Chris Tufton, and the Jamaica Moves (Wynter was previously pre-diabetic with her weight at almost 300 pounds) went down to 179 pounds, but has since had to battle to keep her weight under 200;
Shot on a relatively low budget, the series to date also featured the popular Emmanuela and Mark Angel - pre-teen Nigerian entrepreneurs, and also covered JAPEX, including PM Andrew Holness, and two lifestyle features from two of the capital's leading business hotels
The whirlwind shoot culminated with a one-on-one studio session where she shot an audiobook, content for her You Tube channel, a motivational DVD series
Wynter aims to have the features - which are modelled on Alvin Day's "Born To Fly" series, broadcast on either or both of the free-to-air
stations.
The production team will be going to Barbados next month(November) to film the other episodes.
Importantly, Wynter is presently also a mentor and she gave a speech earlier in the school year to inspire maladapted youth to re-orient their thinking to live life amongst kindred imagineers now.
Live life amongst kindred imagineers now! Lakin you have made us so proud...higher self and your deities.
