Facebook posted a sharp increase in quarterly revenue and profit as it benefited from a wave of digital ad spending but said it expects growth to slow later this year from factors including Apple’s new ad-targeting rules, Sarah E. Needleman reports

The company said its earnings reflects the past year’s trend of people spending more time and money online and advertisers redirecting their resources to take advantage of that shift. Revenue rose 46% to $25.44 billion, while profit nearly doubled to $9.5 billion.

VERSES

PANDEMIC CITY. 2:00 pm
and the piss
that has seeped into
Parade's cracked
sidewalks
leaps undeniably
into my conscious
Stirred by April's
convectional heat
Dogs seek the cover
of cars, whether simply
parked or
junked
An army of vendors
coexists
at the head of
King Street
momentarily amused and
titillated
by the squatting twerking
woman and her
metronomic butt cheeks
Taxis slink through
the back alleys
to avoid the Law
and everywhere
there is dancehall
with its materialist
boasts
threats of gunplay
and demands for
sex
Women in various states
of undress
and lawyers in
various states of
official dress
unselfconsciously
humorlessly ply the streets
passing Busta and
Norman
cousins engaged in
imagined banter on
their statuary bench
Once mighty buildings
sulk in retirement - some voluntary
- some enjoying a
dubious second life as
impromptu homeless shelters and
snack stands
Atop the greatest
of them
the toothless soundless
Lions
adorning Colonel Ward's
squandered
gift
betrays a quiet
yet weary
resilience
