Salt: See Angie Run (and Kick and Shoot and other stuff)

For nearly all of this frenetic, somewhat implausible yet oddly enjoyable action thriller (i avoid the "political thriller" tag) Angelina Jolie seems bent on convincing us that she can still hack it as a female action lead and, after a somewhat formulaic first half, she actually succeeds.

Evelyn Salt (what the hell kind of name is that?) is a Soviet double agent.... or is she an American double agent. That question we won't answer definitively (and there's also the spider thing) but the film's plot basically revolves around which of those perspectives one chooses. For her section heads at the CIA (Liev Schreiber and Chiewetel Ejiofor) that conflict pushes much of the action in the first half, with the latter pursuing Salt as she skips across moving vehicles on the freeway and comandeers motorcycles in the typical Hollywood chase. There's an assassination plot thrown in that has a whiff of The Boys From Brazil to it and the now in-style Russian jingoism.

But mostly its Angie, running, jumping, skipping, shooting and kicking ass, all with a great degree of

Its certainly not her best acting - for that, you should pick up the Clint Eastwood-directed The Changeling. But as an action outing goes, it beats Wanted by a mile, and is on the level of her Mr.& Mrs. Smith team-up with hubby(?) Brad Pitt.
