The Social Network: Beware the Sex drive offthe American college male
Which girl is hotter?
Upon such profound questions, a 25 billion-dollar company has been built. This well-crafted and absorbing movie presents that journey, ie the story of Facebook, and its founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Money seems not to be his prime motivator however. As portrayed in the movie, Zuckerberg is souless, brash arrogant and totally obsessed with maximizing the social experience via technology. He also seems to adhere to the principle that success lies in pissing off the right people at the right time - a costly credo, as the double lawsuits that essentially form the backbone of the narrative attest.
As Napster founder Sean Parker, Justin Timberlake very nearly hijacks the whole movie, but Jesse Eisenberg in the lead role and moreso, Andrew Garfield as best friend, co-founder and independent litigant Edwardo Saverin also command the viewer's attention.
There's a particulalry priceless sequence when the lawyer representing the other litigants (twins cxameron and Tyler Winkelvoss and Divya Narendra) asks Zuckerberg if he has his attention, the response to which a is a pointed "No" and what follows makes for about two minutes of riveting monologue.
Whether accurate or not, The social Network is a better than average depiction of how the American Dream is intersecting with the Internet Age. Definitely one to add.
