Denzel in 'Mighty Quinn": Happy Birthday.....Mon!

Today, multiple-award-winning actor Denzel Washington turns 56. It was roughly 21 years ago that he played the police chief on a laid-back Caribbean resort island (read "Jamaica") alongside Robert Townsend, Mimi Rogers and M. Emmet Walsh.

The film takes its name from the Bob Dylan song of the same name, a Reggae cover version of which appears on the soundtrack. Film criticRoger Ebert was notable for giving the film an overwhelmingly positive review, calling it one of the best films of 1989.
The Mighty Quinn was filmed at various locations throughout Jamaica, with the principal outdoor scenes shot in Port Antonio. Interior scenes of Donald Pater's mansion were filmed at Golden Clouds Villa in Oracabessa.

The soundtrack includes 'Sen Fi Spanish Fly" by Little Twitch and Michael Rose's "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"
