So, apparently Martin Lawrence thinks that young Brandon Jackson is some kind of heir to this "bloated" (we couldn't resist) mini-franchise he's created - essentially the only movies he's made recently that have actually had any legs at the box-office.

To his credit, Jackson, who served notice of his sly comic charm in the otherwise barely-there "Percy Jackson and the Olympians, does pass his 'college exam' - he plays son and drag queen apprentice to Lawrence's gargantuan Big Momma.

The real question is...... who cares? The plot is worse than disposable, the opening scene shows us Lawrence - in regular clothes - chasing a mail carrier just to get the envelope that says his son has been accepted at Duke University - seriously?

Even allowing for the occasional need for escapism,  this is a tedious exercise - the set-ups are trifling, the bad guys have no charisma and the girls amongst which these undercover investigators find themselves (at a Performing Arts School for Girls) are largely unspectacular.

In short, Big Mommas is the kind of movie you should only watch if you absolutely must, and even then, know that a whole bunch of patience and forebearance is required
