Girls Gone Wild, the Action-fantasy Edition:Sucker Punch - Official Trailer 2 [HD]

Take five admittedly hot twenty-something females, keep them in a mix of B-movie prison garb and cheap showgirl-type costumes, throw in a variety of war scenarios and video-game premises, and oh yeah, center the whole thing around a cheesy-looking mental asylum.

That, in effect, is writer-director Zack Snyder's idea of "provocative action fantasy". Clealrly, something has gone terribly wrong since The Watchmen. This latest outing is a film so absorbed in its masturbatory, stylistic excess that it soon becomes questionable if viewers are even necessary, or wanted. Not a single visual cliche is left untouched: slo-mo bullets, zombie soldiers, robot armies, you name it, they're all here, and did we mention scantily-clad twenty-somethings?

To give credit where its due, there is one engaging sequence in all of this, and it involves - wait for it! - a dragon-slaying. That past, the devolution continues unabated, with all the stock scenes: the rousing pep talk, the slick, yet sadistically outrageous "boss" (well played despite the limitations by Oscar Isaac); the "ultimate sacrifice" for the good of the cause.

Horny young men (and okay, yes, a few of us older ones too) will be distracted to varying degrees by the likes of Aussies Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens and Emily Browning dodging bullets and hacking poor suckers to pieces while showing juicy bits of thigh and cleavage, but serious movie goers who are "suckered" into giving this a try based on Snyder previous work, will be twitching, yawning and cursing themselves before too long.

And - following Scott Glenn's dialogue motif - just one more thing: If you do decide to see sucker punch, check your expectations at the door.
