Live Music: Ele is "Still Jiggy" And Lighting Rigs Are Still in Jeopardy

"They should have made the stage bigger" came the observation from toaster/hypester DJ Minchie on Wednesday night, adding to already universal expectations that the small stage and lighting rig set up at Pulse to mark the (9th) Anniversary of Wednesday night "uptown street dance" bash, "Pepperseed"would be in some jeopardy.

Sure enough, the self-billed "Energy God" mounted the lighting rig  - on both sides - and gave his trademark jigs which st the whole set-up shaking but, fortunately intact.

What was really shaken up, in a refreshingly good way, was the audience. The veteran of the dancehall scene, with now some 25+ years of hitmaking under his (slightly expanded) belt, showed that he still "had it" ("I was born with it" he slurred) as he romped through a chunk of his sizeable catalogue, interspersed with " the usual" - railing against gays, oral sex and his other favourite target, bad mind, but a ltille unusual - he spent a while talking about the reports of slavery in Libya, as well as demanding freedom for incarcerated DJs Buju Banton and Ninjaman, while paying tribute to his "DJ Father" Bounty Killa.

It was a command performance eaten up by the audience, with a few venturing on stage to join him and obliging his requests to "borrow" their cell phones - the instruments being kept active by audiences seeking to capture the moment, in between syncing the myriad dance moves the dancehall chart-topper has unleashed and advocated over his career.

The Pulse rig survived, but the "Energy God" made his point, he's still "got it" and he's stalking the next one.
