Books: The Book World is Coming to Cuba in 2018

A report from TeleSur.
The festival hosted by the Cuban Ministry of Culture is held every year at the two forts in Havana, Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña and Castillo de Los Tres Santos Reyes Magos del Morro, popularly known as La Cabaña and El Morro.
Cuba will open the 27th International Book Fair in the capital city of Havana, where over 30 countries are expected to participate on February 2018.
The book fair which began in 1937 will be headquartered at San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress and will branch out to at least 22 other locations in the capital.
The vice president of the Cuban Book Institute, Edel Morales, said at least 318 guests have confirmed their attendance, out of which at least 104 are writers and intellectuals. Morales said more intellectuals are expected to confirm.
The festival hosted by the Cuban Ministry of Culture is held every year at the two forts in Havana, Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña and Castillo de Los Tres Santos Reyes del Morro, popularly known as La Cabaña and El Morro.
Among the foreign publishers that will be present at the fair are Ediciones Aurelia, Comics and Cuentos, Editora Popular, and Selvi Editores, while Cuba will be represented by almost all publishers, Arte y Literatura, Nuevo Milenio, José Martí and Letras Cubanas, just to mention a few. Of special note is Ediciones Boloña, which will present the work of the historian of Havana and National Social Sciences Prize Eusebio Leal, to whom this edition is dedicated.
Alongside books, the event has rides, food stalls for a fun packed family outing.
"The idea is that the fair should be a place for the Cuban family," Morales told Quartz in February.
Reprints of the titles Fiñes, Light on the Mirror, Children of My Time, and Eternal Wisdom will also be sold at the fair, the latter two are compendiums of speeches, lectures written by artists and intellectuals, the editorial director, Mario Cremata, said, according to Cuba Net.
Fidel Castro books are the most sought after at the fair, Morales noted.
Cuba has a literacy rate of 100 percent, thanks to its amazing literacy program, started by the Cuban revolutionary, Fidel Castro.
Havana which has a population of 2 million, saw nearly 500,000 footfalls in its 2017 International Book Fair, more than other cities like New York City's Brooklyn Book Fair, held in September last year, attended by 40,000 people, even exceeding the attendance at Frankfurt book fair, known to be the largest in the world.
