Film: Bad Lucky Goat and Other Leading Caribbean Films

Jonathan Ali, Director of Programming for Miami’s Third Horizon Caribbean Film Festival, gives his list of five best Caribbean films of 2017 for LargeUp:
Bad Lucky Goat, directed by Samir Oliveros (Colombia)
Cocote, directed by Nelson Carlo de los Santos (Dominican Republic)
Moko Jumbie, directed by Vashti Anderson (Trinidad and Tobago/USA)
Santa y Andrés, directed by Carlos Lechuga (Cuba)
Tezen, directed by Shirley Bruno (Haiti)

Bad Lucky Goat has won the Archie Award for Best First Feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival, USA.
Cocote has won the Signs of Life Award at the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland.
Santa y Andrés has won the Best Film Award, the Audience Award and the Best Actor Award (Eduardo Martínez) at the Santo Domingo OutFest - International LGBT Film Festival, Dominican Republic; the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Barcelona Gay Film Festival, Spain; the Best Ibero-American Fiction Award, the Best Actress Award (Lola Amores), the Best Screenplay Award (Carlos Lechuga), and the Special Jury Prize at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Mexico; and the Best Performance Award (Lola Amores and Eduardo Martínez) at the Miami Film Festival, USA.
