Chelsea are ready to firm up their interest in Bayern Leverkusen's highly-rated star Leon Bailey by launching a £20million transfer bid in January, according to The Sun.
Scouts from west London have been sent to watch Bailey on three occasions this season with the Premier League champions having monitored him for much of the last 18 months.
The 20-year-old is widely considered to be one of the fastest players across Europe's top five divisions and has also attracted interest from Spanish giants Barcelona.
However, the reigning Premier League champions hope to barge their way to the front of the queue with a sizeable transfer bid in the upcoming transfer window and are also willing to loan him back to the Bundesliga club for the rest of the campaign.
Tied to the club until 2022, Leverkusen will feel under little pressure to cash in on their biggest prospect next month, but the chance to keep him on loan while also gaining significant funds may prove a tempting prospect.
Indeed, Chelsea have made a habit of signing top talent from around Europe, only to let them develop away from Stamford Bridge before eventually selling for a significant profit.
