Live Music: Fab Five, Juno-winner Jay Douglas Share Billing on 'Simply Myrna"

FAB FIVE, JUNO WINNER SHARE BILLING ON “SIMPLY MYRNA” IN MARCH
That the cabaret showcase “Simply Myrna” has become one of the hottest tickets on the entertainment calendar is not only down to the brilliance and perseverance of conceptualizer,

promoter and headline act, Myrna Hague Bradshaw (right), but also to the presence of some stellar artists whom she has brought to the stage, to the delight of fans, Previous guests on the show, which returns this March 3, at Kingston’s Courtleigh Auditorium, have included Ernie Smith, John Holt, Boris Gardener, A. J. Brown and more.
For the 2018 edition Myrna will be joined by Canadian-based Jamaican singer-musician Jay Douglas, a winner of the JUNO Award (Canada’s Grammy-equivalent) in 2012 for Reggae Recording of the Year. Making a special appearance will be Fab Five, a band whose credentials are virtually self-evident, while Desi Jones will lead the 10-piece “Simply Myrna” band, accompanying the star herself.
With over 45 years of showmanship, Jay Douglas (left) has developed a wide ranging repertoire of American Blues, West Indian Rhythms and Jazz Standards, complimented by fancy footwork, and a ton of stage charisma. In addition to cities across Canada, he has performed around the world, including Hong Kong and many countries of the Mediterranean. Jay performs weekly in Toronto.
Approaching 50 years, Fab Five is still the pre-eminent Jamaican showband, known everywhere that persons appreciate quality live music and showmanship. In addition to their innumerable live gigs, the band has contributed several classic recordings to the Jamaican pop canon, notably “Ring Road” “Jamaican Girls” “Shaving Cream” and “Who, Wha?”

Startng out as a percussionist with the Eddie Thomas Dance Group, he was a member of the Sonny Bradshaw Seven and the Jamaica Big Band, a mainstay of the group Chalice, led his own aggregation, dubbed Skool, and has worked on countless live shows as well as records for Mutabaruka, Carlene Davis  and Kathy Brown among others.
Production for “Simply Myrna”  is coordinated by LDC Productions and the event is, once again, under the Distinguished Patronage of former Governor-General Sir Kenneth Hall and Lady Hall. Part proceeds from the show go towards the Jones Avenue Basic School and the Sonny Bradshaw Foundation, honouring the legacy of the late, great Sonny Bradshaw.
