Poetry: KINGSTON SYMPHONY, South of Parade

The journey
begins in the
East
the sun smiling benevolence on
the Mountains and the
Sea those two wanton
solicitors
On the approach to
Parade Square
every street corner recoils
from the acid sting of
men
relieving themselves
The stores spill
onto the sidewalks and
into the lanes
Merchandise
like a virus
young girls' hot pants
selfies
going viral
Horse betting shops
and
numbers stops
Moss covering the older buildings
like beards
they've seen it
all
Tons of secrets
plastered to their
exposed walls
Derelicts extend
their survival records
Iron Man got
nothing
on such as these
but ehy'll
never
make the big screen
save for some
errant documentary
that the Government
wants no one
to see
how dignity has been
knocked flat
laid
bare at the altar of
the Almighty dollar
pouring
like concrete into the
soaring towers on the
Waterfront
