Poetry: FISH EYE

Languidly awake
on a bench in a
mall
glass-shielded clothing like
coral
buxom bait swim by
some alone
some hauling their
young
others
their hooks all too
obvious
the partly shielded sun
still casts deft strokes
of late afternoon
colour on
shoppers
scammers
schoolkids and
security guards
the fashion plates and
the "fusty-dusties"
the luscious and the
lanky
Visitors
from other waters
converge for both
shelter and
adventure while
Marilyn and Twiggy cast
their shutter-stop gazes
on the Crocs-clad crowd
relics from
a bygone era they
may as well be fictional
and
on the TV news
 shiny like an
anemone
the Big Orange
Worm
caught
on manifold hooks
of his craven
ego
wriggles his
denouement
