and resentful
the ones
who hold nothing dear
but happily give their base integrity
away
for cheap
the ones who disdain
quiet thoughts
but always cheer
the vulgar shouts
easily taken in
by
crass materialism
yet distrustful
of lofty ambitions and
reasoned arguments alike
Whose only
mission
is their pleasure
For whom letters
on their clothes
are more
desirable
than letters behind their
names
Who revel in games
of chance
yet look askance
at stocks and
bonds and
shares
not one of them
cares
about any issue
more weighty than
which rainbow-hued shoe
will next adorn
their feet
and so
in the words
of their jailed
hero
