Poetry: NERVES, NUMBERS & NOTES

They come
haltingly
at first to this
historic Kingston junction
Where Wint
was first immortalized and
Macdermot
entered the lexicon
in reverse
to overcome the fear pressing
on them from the inside
like the large paper
badges
press on the outside
reduced to
numbers
asked to do
numbers
before a troika of
visitors silently probing seeking to
find the ineffable
"It"
that unbounded
unmistakable
universal stamp of
authenticity
that electrifying
pulsating mix of
reckless desire funneled
into ruthless
ambition
that seemingly unattainable yet
unavoidable
One shot
that makes comets of
mortals
and sends previously
predictable planets
into entirely new
ellipses
