Poetry: DEATH TO WHITEY

Before the long
arm
of the law had grabbed  him
by the collar
South Boston's most
notorious had become
SoCal's most
normal
A pay-the-rent
do-the-shopping
keep-your-head down
sap
far removed it seems from
the monster
unmoved
by the grisly removal of
the teeth of the
women he'd
killed
"the better to sty unkowable, my dears"
but
in the midst of safety
a cool Icelandic
beauty slips
a hot tip
and Whitey the Terrible - immortalized
on the silver screen - is left to clutch
grey steel bars
A cell his final residence and yet
he had little inkling
that a crisp
fall day would see his existence
curtailed
infamous in death
as he had been
in life
