Music: Brushy is Still "King of One-String"

Former Digicel Rising Stars novelty Brushy One-String is still picking his way through the entertainment business, which may surprise many Jamaicans.

Brushy most recently performed at the 2019 renewal of the WOMAD Festival in Malmesburg, England and has also done the famed Tiny Desk Concert hosted by U.S. public radio station NPR. he's promoting his latest song "rising Up" via his website, brushyonestring.com and continues to tour globally, if largely under the radar of the Jamaican music press

Son of Jamaican reggae singer Freddie McKay, Brushy created a unique sound using an acoustic guitar with only one string (hence his stage name, One String), and the body of the guitar as percussion.
Following an encounter with filmmaker Luciano Blotta, who was in Jamaica shooting his 2007 documentary Rise Up, his career took off. His song "Chicken in the Corn" was featured in the soundtrack of the movie He later played at major music festivals such as South by SouthwestNew Orleans House of Blues, and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
In 2014, The King of One String, a documentary about his musical career, was released
